Latchkey Acres

About Us

The farm is located in Meredith, New Hampshire, often referred to as the Latchkey to the White Mountains. This was the inspiration for the name. Latchkey Acres is the ongoing evolution of dreams cast by Brothers David and Philip Polhemus over 50 years ago. Their vision was to leverage what nature has to offer to create an environment of peace and support for all who visit.

Today, the farm busy with all the seasonal activities. In the late winter, the Sugar Shack comes alive, tapping the orchard of maples in the traditional way, collecting buckets of sap by hand then boiling it into the liquid gold. As the snow gives way to the black flies and budding leaves, so too comes the need to tend the fruit trees, berry plants and the vegetable gardens. Spring turns to summer and with it comes the opportunities for hiking on the numerous trails, both on property and in the nearby preserved lands. What would summer be without an afternoon dip or kayak on Lake Pemi, just down the hill, or a quick trip into town for a cone at the Town Docks? Once the harvest is in and the autumn chill hits, the leaves turn spectacular colors…but also serve as the harbinger of things to come. Very soon the flakes will fly, Sandwich Fair will come and go, and we will get the wood stoves ready for the winter months. No hibernation for us! Snowshoeing, skiing, sledding opportunities are plentiful. As with all things in nature, the cycle starts anew.
